Ocean Passages offers traditional hands-on sailing in the spectacular marine environments of southern Cuba, just as our neighbor island nation is experiencing a period of historic change. Based in Portland, ME, we host fall and spring Adventure with Purpose voyages along the east coast of the United States to and from Cuba. These gap programs include a full month of extended sailing in Cuban waters and excursions to coastal communities along the island’s southern shore. All the programs operate from the ship’s Cuban homeport of Cienfuegos harbor, one of the most captivating bays in the Caribbean.
No sailing experience is needed, but team spirit is essential. Together with your shipmates, you’ll explore breathtaking cays, stand watch on the bow, swap stories in the galley and experience firsthand the overdue re-engagement between Americans and Cubans. Our 2017-2018 gap voyages run from Sept. 9 to Dec. 19, 2017 – and from March 18 to May 24, 2018.
Cuba is undergoing fundamental transformation, with deep consequences for Cubans and Americans. Our voyages will seize this moment to explore the causes and effects – charting a 21st century course from the unique perspective of a 19th century Tall Ship.
